The Ocean Baths
Staying in Newcastle, New South Wales, within earshot of the sea, it was a home from home. The 1920’s Ocean Baths are a thing of beauty and inspiration. A shadow of their former glory they are none the less elegant and functional and with the backdrop of the ocean, a place of quiet beauty at sunrise.
I was particularly drawn to the shape and colour of the seawall that morphs into the seating steps. The angular concrete starting blocks give structure and contrast with the lyrical sweep of the steps. Now an on-going obsession…
